CT Sounds is proud to introduce the hydro shallow mount subwoofer series after completing a rigorous R&D process spanning 2 years! Our goal was to engineer a 300-watt 8” shallow-mount subwoofer with a mounting depth below 3.5” that was suitable for both sealed & ported enclosures. To achieve this, we focused on the EBP (Efficiency Bandwidth Product). As a general rule, EBP < 50, is used only for sealed enclosures, EBP 50 - 100, is used for both, and EBP > 100, is used only for ported enclosures. EBP = FS/QES.

Quick Facts:
RMS Power: 300 Watts
MAX Power: 600 Watts
Voice Coil Configuration: Dual 2 Ohm
Use Cases: Sealed & Ported Enclosures

Our 1st prototype utilized a 50.8 mm voice coil & 30 oz magnet resulting in a high QES rating of 1.05 and low EBP of 44.1. The 2nd prototype utilized a 44.7 mm voice coil & 30 oz magnet resulting in a slightly lower QES rating of 0.843 and a slightly higher EBP of 54.8. After the 1st and 2nd prototypes, we determined a larger motor assembly was needed to provide a more controlled electrical system (lower QES). This led us to invest in a custom-tooled basket (used in the final prototype) to keep the mounting depth below 3.5”.

The 3rd and final prototype uses a 44.7 mm voice coil & 40 oz magnet resulting in a reduced QES rating of 0.577 and a balanced EBP of 80.07. In testing, we ran into mechanical noise due to the larger motor assembly and voice coil in a confined space. Therefore, we invested in a custom-tooled cone to maximize the excursion capability by creating an equal distance between the cone, spider, and bottom plate. The result is an 8” shallow-mount subwoofer that is extremely responsive in both sealed & ported enclosures.

Use Cases: Sealed & Ported Enclosures

Our 1st prototype utilized a 50.8 mm voice coil & 30 oz magnet resulting in a high QES rating of 1.21 and low EBP of 39.23. The 2nd prototype utilized a 44.7 mm voice coil & 30 oz magnet resulting in a slightly lower QES rating of 0.976 and a slightly higher EBP of 48.64. After the 1st and 2nd prototypes, we determined a larger motor assembly was needed to provide a more controlled electrical system (lower QES). The 3rd and final prototype uses a 44.7 mm voice coil & 40 oz magnet resulting in a reduced QES rating of 0.668 and a balanced EBP of 71.06. In testing, we ran into mechanical noise due to the larger motor assembly and voice coil in a confined space. Therefore, we invested in a custom-tooled cone to maximize the excursion capability by creating an equal distance between the cone, spider, and bottom plate. Hydro 8 inch Sub, 6x6.5 Meso Mid Range, 6 Neodymium Tweeter

Everything I've installed so far is awesome I installed a pair of 6.5" Mesos and Bullet Tweeters first they're crystal clear, and I just installed the Hydro 8 inch sub in the rear of a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, it provides good hard hitting bass from the factory amp and head unit I'm impressed with CT Sounds they came so highly recommended I ordered from their competitor first, and after seeing advertisements for CT Sounds I sent those speakers back and I'm glad I did great products will buy again 👍

Absolutely love how hard this 8 hits in my car. Installed in an 18 wrx under front seat and sounds awesome.

Super Impressed with the Hydro 8 and customer service

Replaced OEM sub in Explorer Platinum, using OEM enclosure. Wasn't quite as loud but sounded much better (OEM was .6 ohm vs 1.0 ohm for the Hydro, so it wasn't getting as much power). Added a new amp, dialed to the right power, and MAN this little dude gets it! I have years of past professional experience in car audio, and I know what a good amp and woofer can do, but this is better than expected. Especially around the 30-50hz range, it's not afraid to get low.
Early on I had an issue with the subwoofer, and customer service helped me troubleshoot. Ended up being the enclosure and how it mounts, not the woofer, but the help was quick and thorough. I'll absolutely be back for future upgrades.

CT Sounds is the best

You can’t beat anything they sell for the money. You just can’t. Some of their stuff is better than “name brands” that cost 3-10x as much. The Hydro 8” fit perfectly in the factory enclosure of my 02 SVT Focus.

Awesome for the Old 2005 F-150

I’ve been fixing up the old 2005 F-150 Lariat for my son, and have had a crackle with the factory sub. Took it apart and found it was dry rotting and falling apart. Had to dremmel the opening just a bit to make it fit, but it looks factory, and sounds even better than before. Highly recommend.
